Commanders are one of a few Strong Contenders to land Cooper Kupp

Multiple teams have been gaining interest following the recent statement regarding LA Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Following a season where they were seemingly just one play away from the NFC Championship, the LA Rams are ready to part ways with star wide receiver Cooper Kupp, “immediately.”

Kupp, 31 years old, is coming off another strong year with the Rams. Missing 4 games due to injury, he still managed to put up three 100 yard games. He finished the 2024 season with 710 yards in only 12 regular season games. We all know the immaculate season he had in 2021 where won the triple crown and led the Rams to a Super Bowl win against the Bengals.

Kupp made it very clear he wants to get back to the big one. If healthy, the threat of him ripping off a 1,000 yard season is still relevant, but not to the Rams. So who? Here’s a few:

Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos are coming off an impressive season behind rookie Quarterback Bo Nix. After only his second season coaching this young Broncos team, Sean Payton led his team to the playoffs. This is a perfect time to pick up a star wide receiver in Cooper Kupp.

Let’s talk logistics though, the Broncos currently rank 16th in cap space ($34 million). The team can currently afford to bring in Kupp without any restriction. Javonte Williams and DJ Jones are 2 top free agents for the Broncos currently. Though being 2 key names, the Broncos can afford to let both walk. Backup running back Jaleel Mclaughlin held his own when he started receiving more of the carries out of the two backs. He is more than able to step into a starting role if needed. For DJ Jones, he is coming off a not so impressive season recording only 46 tackles and 1 sack. The Broncos can look for a younger defensive lineman or in the free agent department.

The window is wide open for Kupp, the Broncos just have to take this opportunity. If they look to get back to the playoffs next season, acquiring Kupp is a huge step in that direction. With an already stellar offense behind now second-year quarterback Bo Nix and a pro bowl wide receiver in Courtland Sutton, this addition will bring the Broncos right back to the playoffs.

Buffalo Bills

Coming off yet another devastating playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills should be looking for a missing piece to get them over that hump. They should not look any further than trading for Cooper Kupp. Reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen utilized his weapons he had all season long, to the best of his extent. Buffalo needs that star, always reliable wide receiver like Cooper Kupp to finally get them past the AFC Championship and into the Super Bowl. But, of course, there is always a price.

Buffalo currently ranks towards the bottom of the league in cap space ($14 million). The team is currently in the red regarding their cap space. For them to affordably pull this off, they would need to cut some contracts. A couple being two wide receivers in Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins. Cooper was brought into the team to upgrade the receiving room for Josh Allen, this ultimately was not to be. He was invisible towards the end of the season into the playoffs. Kupp would be much more affordable if the Bills take the risk to cut a couple contracts.

Washington Commanders

The only NFC team that should be discussed as a possible destination for Cooper Kupp is the Washington Commanders. The LA Rams should absolutely be venturing away from any NFC team, but if they are looking for a good price look no further than the Commanders. Jaden Daniels just won ROTY, coming off one of the best rookie Quarterback seasons. Terry Mclaurin is coming one of his best years and looks to be a very reliable option for the young QB. Give this man more weapons Washington.

The Commanders currently rank third in cap space in the NFL ($75 million). They have multiple draft picks to use in a trade to acquire Kupp. Commanders GM, Adam Peters, clearly has the funds to start negotiation with the Rams. All signs point to Washington being one of the strongest contenders for Cooper Kupp.
