4 Nations Face-Off ‘vicious’ success sets Professional Leagues on notice

The 2025 Four Nations Face- Off has officially concluded, and what a success it was. The entire tournament showcased the best hockey players from Finland, Sweden, Canada, and the USA. It was best on best throughout every game, and man did it deliver. From 3 fights in 9 seconds to stick handling and puck movement only the pros can do, this was must- see TV.

Canada became victorious by beating USA in a back and forth championship game on Thursday. After being deadlocked at 2 a piece heading into the overtime period, Assistant Captain Connor Mcdavid scored the championship winning goal only 8 minutes in. It was a perfect ending to a perfect tournament.

The NHL took a risk other leagues are worried to take. Taking the All- star game out of the schedule and replacing it with a 4- team tournament they have never done before. An in- season, grueling tournament. These players aren’t going to give it their full 100% right?

Quite the opposite actually. These players were playing for more than themselves, they were playing for their country. The heart shown in every game of the tournament shows how much love these athletes have for the game they grew up playing. Not a single dollar sign in any of the players minds, but saying they won for their country is what drove them. These athletes should get all the credit in the world for making this tournament something special.

Professional leagues should use this as an example, especially NBA. The NBA All- star game has become a joke. The lack of effort from the players has been at the forefront in recent All- star games, and it’s been incredibly obvious. Why should they give any effort though? The game means little to nothing to them, they don’t care. When they don’t care, it’s not enjoyable to watch.

The 4 Nations Face- Off being enjoyable to watch is an understatement. Let the numbers show, the championship game drew over 16 million viewers across North America. The NHL hasn’t seen numbers like this in a decade. People who never thought about turning on a hockey game were glued to their TV instantly and found enjoyment in the games. The NHL is at its peak currently, and there are no signs of slowing down.

All- star games and Pro Bowls are beyond slowed down. Use this risk the NHL made as an example to further grow your sport. Playing with passion, for more than yourself, will drive these athletes into making competition more enjoyable to watch. The bar has been set, it’s time for leagues to reach it.
